The Importance of Cash

I explain here why increasing the cash in circulation is not only freedom, but much, much more:
- I have a fifty pound note in my pocket. I go into a restaurant and I pay with it. The caterer then uses it to pay for the laundry. The laundry shop owner later uses it to pay the barber for his haircut. The barber uses it to shop for groceries. After passing it on an unlimited number of times there is still a fifty pound note in circulation in the real economy.

- I go to a restaurant and pay for dinner with a debit card or credit card. The banking costs are around two pounds per transaction. After only 20 transactions, of the initial fifty pounds I was talking about at the beginning of the example there are only TEN left in the real economy. The other forty pounds ended up in the banking system.

This makes bankers rich and us poor. Take cash out of your bank and spend it wherever you like. You will find you also spend less. You become reluctant to part with cash for things that you would pay for without thinking on plastic and that have little actual value to you. Cash IS more valuable than money in the ether on plastic.
I can't explain it any better!
